Drill of the month
The purpose of drills in swimming is simply to provide a way of practicing that emphasises an element of correct technique in the skill so that this technique can be subsequently included in the execution of the full skill. In our work of running technique clinics for clubs in the UK, we see an array of drills practiced and not all of them correctly. In fact it amazes us sometimes to see swimmers practicing drills in such a way that actually reinforces incorrect technique. As we say, ‘if your practice is wrong, you get very good at doing it wrong – only perfect practice makes perfect!’
So in the Drill of the Month section, it is our intention to help you learn not just a series of drills, but what these drills are attempting to do and especially, how to do them correctly!
